Prince Albert II: The Arctic Explorer

Self-confessed environmentalist Prince Albert II of Monaco has a new-state-of-the-art research cruiser and expedition ship named after him. In Monaco harbour, the prince recently launched the 132-passanger vessel, that is operated by Silversea. The luxury craft, which is built to cope with travel in the harshest conditions in the most remote regions of the Arctic and the Bering Strait, is looking to draw and elite group of passengers.

They will be wealthy conservation-minded travellers seeking 10 to 22 day adventures where they explore oceans, wildlife and the indigenous cultures in the Arctic, Iceland and Greenland. Guests travel in ultimate style with the ship's features including a luxury lecture thetre, a library, internet center, an outdoor deck with Jacuzzis and selection of spacious ocean-view cabins, many with private verandas.

Prince Albert grandfather, Prince Albert I, was enthusiastic explorer of the Arctic marine region in the early 20th century and founded the internationally respected marine science centre, the Oceanographic Institute. Following in grandadd's footsteps, Prince Albert has also visited the area and, two years ago, became the first regining head of state to set foot on the North Pole. With the launch of the Prince Albert II, His Highness hopes to generate further interest in conserving the polar region.
