The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was formed after the tragedies of 9 / 11 to strengthen the national transportation security systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commercial. Within a year, TSA assumed responsibility for airport security and implement a Federal workforce to meet the Congressional deadlines for scanning all of the following commercial passenger aircraft baggage. In March 2003, TSA was transferred from the Department of Transportation to the Department of Homeland Security.
TSA implement risk-based strategy for securing U.S. transportation system, working closely with stakeholders in aviation, rail, transit, highway, and pipeline sectors, as well as partnering with law enforcement and intelligence community. The agency will continue to establish standards of comfort in transportation safety through the community, process, technology and the use of intelligence to manage the operation.
