Ledger Tribute: New Scholarship

An organization of Australian working in Hollywood has announced a scholarship honoring compatriot, actor Heath Ledger, who died in New year from an accidental prescription drug overdose. The Australian in Film organization says the first Heath Ledger Scholarship for upcoming young actors is to be awarded in 2009.

Director Gregor Jordan, who has been a driving force behind the fund, says ledger’s spirit inspired the initiative. Jordan recalled how Ledger, after receiving his first significant U.S pay cheque, went “into a bar (to) buy everyone a round for drinks. It is the generosity that somehow sums Heath up.

When he had nothing, he still found away to give to others. “Ledger’s father, Kim, is pleased. He said:”We know that Heath would be proud of his attachment to this scholarship that does what Heath has done personally during the last 10 years (supporting) Australian actors, singers, directors or writers who seek to supply their talents to the USA”.

Bike To School

Syahrul Effendi, South Jakarta mayor, promote students from state high school SMA 6 to use bicycles from their homes to school. He also campaign on Sunday with SMA 6 students to rode from their school on Jln. Mahakam, passing through Senayan and ended at Central Jakarta on Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.

If the distance between students homes and school was less than 3 kilometers, Syahrul Effendi said residents should use bike as transportation. He has been done it with SMA 6 and Lab School students, so he encourage the use of bicycles to all schools at South Jakarta.

Nowadays, cycling to work or school has become the choice for many peoples. It is happened because of the bad traffic congestion. A Cycling Community Bike to Work in Jakarta has successfully pushed more than 5,000 peoples in greater Jakarta to leave their vehicles and use bicycle to work.

While I am looking for reference about museum in other country, I find an interesting article about shooting at Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The accident make Stephen Tyrone Johns-a duty officer-get killed. It suppose not happened in public environment like museum. I guess we must stay alert and fight against horrible crime like this.
